Birmingham Churches Together Training has developed the Learning Champions programme to enable local people to promote learning within their local communities. This has proved to be a highly effective way of reaching people who have not engaged in any form of learning since school.
We have been working in partnership with local churches and other organisations to develop this approach to engage new learners and widening participation in their own programmes as well as befriending and signposting on to other local provision.
The Role of a Learning Champion Churches recruit local people to work as ‘learning champions’, advocating the power of learning to friends and colleagues, and making contact with other local people who may not have achieved well at school and who are not participating in any other learning programmes.
Learning champions come from all walks of life. They may have struggled with learning themselves or they may have retired from the teaching profession. However, they all promote learning because they believe in the opportunities learning offers.
Training and Support
Birmingham Churches Together Training deliver a modular programme to develop the skills of Learning Champions which can be adapted to individual needs. All our sessions are delivered in the context of the Christian faith and offer an opportunity for reflection. For more information meet some of our Learning Champions by clicking here or contact us
